#the100dayproject : handmade card 78/100-2 : thoughts of you

i'm so excited to share today's card! the stamp set that i decided to use is sure to become one of my favorites, and it's a type i never thought i would say that about. truth be told, i'm not a huge fan of birds - but these might just turn me around!

the inspiration wheel landed on all one company and so i decided to use stamps and papers from papertrey ink. i even remembered that i had some patterned paper that's a little different in style, so i busted out a whole different bag of tricks!

Featuring a bright red cardinal, this handmade card will surely make the recipient smile! The sentiment "Thoughts of you make me smile" is stamped in black in under the multi-layered stamped image of a cardinal which is layered on a multi-colored paper with a repeating triangular pattern. A red card base coordinates with the color of the bird and a deep teal envelope is shown and included.

i began by stamping the red bird, designed to look like a cardinal, on a small block of light grey cardstock. the set has numerous stamps that when layered together create a realistic image of a bird and i just love the way they work together! the color options are endless, but for this first time using the set i wanted to use the traditional colors of this style of bird. since the bird is looking towards the right, i wanted to make sure the panel was near the right side of the card base as well.

the grey block is layered on top of a patterned rectangle which features a repetitive triangular pattern in a variety of colors including red, pink, aqua, grey, green, teal and white. i've had this patterned paper for a number of years and just remembered it today, thinking that it might work well. [i think it does!]

An angled view of the stamped detail on this handmade card features a red cardinal and the sentiment, "Thoughts of you make me smile." A triangular patterned paper adds a splash of color.

the stamped sentiment reads "thoughts of you make me happy" which i think is a great option for how cheery this card feels. i think anyone would be happy to know that thoughts of them make someone else happy, right? just look how happy that little bird is! it makes my heart happy.

A bright red cardinal is stamped above the sentiment, "Thoughts of you make me smile" on a light grey rectangular panel. A layer of colorful patterned paper is layered between the grey panel and the red card base.

unlike most of my recent cards, instead of creating a border all around the decorative panel, i decided to have the edges line up along the right side of the card base, revealing a border only on the left and the top.

papertrey has released a series of these bird stamps and i'm anxiously awaiting for two of them to come back into stock. i think that sets of cards with a variety of birds and sentiments could be so fun! you can see some of the others that are already available in my online shop here and here. i'm scheming ideas for sets, so stay tuned for those.

78 cards down, 22 to go!
