#the100dayproject : handmade card 53/100-2 : you are my sunshine

it's the weekend - yay!
remember earlier this week when i mentioned that i was looking forward to so much creative time today? that would have been fantastic, buttttt i ended up getting pretty distracted with typical weekend goodness: laundry, meal prep [egg scrambles for breakfast sammies and pulled pork for tacos - which turned out amazing! - details below], basic cleaning and then continuing an organizational project in the craft castle. i was able to create the card for today and i also made a huge dent in my project which will greatly benefit me later this week when i have a few days off, all dedicated to creating and stocking my shop full of goodies for an upcoming black friday event!
above left: egg scrambles that are made, then frozen and then defrosted overnight for amazing breakfast sammies in the mornings - either in tortillas or bagel thins. they're full of sausage, red, orange and green peppers, [sometimes onion], a little cheese and of course eggs! so easy and so delicious!
above right: my bestie shared an amazing recipe for carnitas tacos and so i adapted this pork to fit the recipe. after 6 hours on low in the crockpot with a little mesquite marinade with lime i shredded it to bits! then loaded it in a street taco sized tortilla, added some cilantro and a squeeze of lime and a little shredded white cheese. doesn't look like much, but man is it scrumptious - and it made a ton!
i love being crafty in more ways than one - and especially in the kitchen. fun fact you might not know - i love to cook and try new recipes as well as new foods and i'm a pretty awesome baker. give me all the sugar.
but back to the card for today - it's definitely one that'll be a day maker for whoever is on the receiving end of it! the inspiration wheel landed on 3D element for the second time in a couple days and i thought it would be great to use the fun foam again!
a bright yellow card base matches the coordinating envelope on this complimentary card. a 1/4" border is left on all sides revealing a white panel centered on the card front. near the bottom left is the stamped sentiment "you are my sunshine" in black ink. it's written in a fun, quirky font which adds to the whimsical feel and energy of this card.
a smattering of yellow metallic paint has been flicked across the panel in a diagonal manner. accenting the dots are sequins in various sizes and shades of yellow and clear that sparkle and shine when the card is moved back and forth.
i love the variations in the shades of yellow across the sequins - so bright and happy. in the upper right corner you can also see the depth and dimension of the sun that's been die-cut from two colors of fun foam and layered together. there's a faux-stitched detail that is so fun and of course it plays off of the sentiment.
the shadows in the photo above show the depth and dimension of the die-cut sun. the center of the sun is adhered to the card base and the rays extend up off of the base. since it was die-cut from foam instead of paper, it already has a little dimension to it and like the elements on this card, it's super squishy and fun!
i think my favorite kind of cards to send are uplifting, encouraging cards and this one fits both of those themes! they're often unexpected and for sure guaranteed to make the person on the receiving end smile. i just want to share as much handmade happiness as possible and i truly believe snail mail is one of the best [and easiest!] ways to do this.
this one will be added to the shop - along with all the others from the last few days. there is so. much. goodness. coming soon - i can't even wait for you to see it all!
here's hoping you can enjoy the second day of the weekend - i'm working the day/night job, but also have a handful of things on my to-do list! fingers crossed i can get them all done - woot woot!
