#the100dayproject : handmade card 26/100-2 : happy birthday

and just like that, the weekend is over. whomp whomp. at least i'm ending it on a good note! i had a decent day at work and i was able to come home and create a handmade card and that's always a win in my book!

the inspiration wheel landed on birthday for today and i decided to incorporate some patterned paper as well as some specialty paper. the sentiment is pretty basic - just "happy birthday" stamped in black ink. but the wow factor is the strip of holographic cardstock!

A flat-lay view of a handmade birthday card, complete with specialty cardstock and patterned paper. A white card base makes the stamped sentiment "happy birthday" pop, especially in contrast to the section of black and white patterned paper near the bottom of the card. A mix of white outlined squares with x's in the middle against a black background can play tricks on your eyes! A wide horizontal strip of holographic specialty cardstock exhibits lots of little dots like confetti that change color depending upon the light. While clean and simple, it's definitely going to wow your recipient.

holy wow man, the photos don't even begin to do this card justice! the lighting plays off of the holographic strip and the colors dance like they're at a rave!

An angled view of this handmade birthday card reveals the many colors that are integrated into the holographic strip on the card front. As the light is reflected off of the card, the colors change. The black and white patterned paper grounds the design and plays nicely off of the white space at the top of the card.

a little goes a long way in terms of glitz and shine, so i used just one somewhat wide horizontal strip of this awesome specialty paper near the middle of the card front. i wanted to make sure that the message was nice and bold on this card, so it's stamped in black ink with a mix of two fonts.

i thought that the card front needed a little something, so i added five clear sequins in two different sizes, creating a visual triangle across the card. they accent the shine on the specialty paper while moving your eye all around. when the light hits this handmade card, you can see all the details from the sparkling sequins to the rainbow of colors in the wide strip! just look at this detail!

A very detailed glimpse at the colors and pattern on the specialty cardstock. When the light is on the card, a rainbow appears within the holographic paper. It's so incredible.

it's so amazing...i just love it! and i think the person on the receiving end of this card will too. it's like a party in an envelope!

this card is listed here and i'm already brainstorming a small grouping of cards in similar designs for a variety of occasions. what do you think? holographic goodness for all the things? let me know by dropping a comment below!

i hope your week is an excellent one - stay tuned because there's lots more coming up!
