#the100dayproject : handmade card 16/100-2 : thankful for you

one of my favorite things about the fall is the combination of warm colors - nearly everywhere you look! leaves changing on the trees, scarecrows and hayfields, and the abundance of plaid, i just love it all!

today's trip around the inspiration wheel landed on sketch and i managed to find one on my pinterest board from mft that i liked.

my favorite things card sketch number 181 : a vertical card with an inlaid rectangle. the horizontal block sits under a circle and the entire design can be interpreted in many different ways.

while the sketch is for a vertical card, i decided to flip it horizontally and make a few slight changes. this is one thing that i really enjoy about sketches - i like to use them as a springboard for inspiration instead of a literal translation. [most of the time anyway.]

i began with a kraft card base and die-cut a rectangle from a red-orange color. the color seems to change depending upon what other colors it is near. then i die-cut a long skinny rectangle from some plaid patterned paper that's featuring those warm colors i mentioned earlier - red orange, orange, yellow, white and brown. finally i die-cut a circle out of a light orange color before stamping a smiling turkey on it. all of the die-cuts have a faux-stitched border for continuity.

a horizontal handmade card with three layers of die-cut elements including a plaid rectangle and a small circle with a stamped turkey. all three elements feature faux-stitching around the edges for additional detail.

near the center of the card front i added in the sentiment "thankful for you" which is stamped in brown ink. there's a stream of small dots under the sentiment so to coordinate, i added a few small dots near the bottom right corner of the card front. the circle with the turkey is elevated off of the card base with the use of foam tape.

flat lay image of the card front - complete with the sentiment "thankful for you" and a happy turkey. the turkey appears to be hand drawn but is actually stamped.

i'm so happy with the way that the colors of this ensemble work together - it's a perfect autumnal card in my mind. it would also be an excellent placeholder for thanksgiving! it's never too early to be thinking about holiday decor and hostess gifts.

this card will be listed in the shop soon - i'm looking forward to some serious creative time this weekend where i can upload some new items and do some additional housekeeping. my current struggle is finding the time to do all the things that i want to do, in addition to all the things i need to do. if only work didn't get in the way of crafting...but maybe someday!

here's hoping your friday is off to a wonderful start - i'll be back soon with day number 17!
