#the100dayproject : handmade card 13/100-2 - wishing you a season of blessings

happy monday! what a start to the week - i've got oodles of ideas for new products and am busy working on lots of things behind the scenes. it's going to be great!

today's spin on the inspiration wheel landed on watercolor and so for my handmade card today i implemented a handful of techniques! i began with a stamp of a leaf that is kinda geometrical in the design. i stamped it and then heat embossed it with a gold powder so it's metallic and shiny. then, i used a variety of distress inks [barn door, ripe persimmon, rusty hinge, crushed olive and peeled paint] along with a waterbrush to watercolor over the embossed image. 

i wanted the feel of the card to be a little different than most of my other cards where each one [card] is pretty similar. i switched up the order of the colors around the leaves and purposely went outside the lines. i didn't want it to look sloppy, but more so like the colors were spilling out as they changed. 

one of my favorite things about watercolor cards is that no two are exactly the same. the way these inks react and respond to one another will never cease to amaze me. even colors that typically don't blend well together end up looking amazing. 

when the card is tilted in the light you can see the glistening of the gold embossing and it looks so cool!

the sentiment that is stamped near the bottom right corner reads "wishing you a season of blessings" and i used brown ink to coordinate with the color of the card base. as an added detail, i tore the edge of the watercolor panel and then dipped it in the gold embossing powder as well. it's got somewhat of an organic feel to it, but it adds a nice splash of glitz. 

because the card base is so dark, i needed to have something brighter on the inside so that the sender would be able to write a legible message on the inside. i decided on a red-orange cardstock which conveniently matched the envelope color that i selected. plus, it's a nice bright surprise when they open the card!

one of my favorite things about the fall is the changing of the leaves - it's so gorgeous and it always makes me happy. i really tried to incorporate that feeling when designing and creating this handmade card. i'm super pleased with the result and i hope my customers and their recipients will be too! this watercolored blessings card is available now here and you can see my post on instagram here! 

i'll be doing lots of updates to the shop this week - emptying out some of the sold out items and adding in some additional things i've been working on. i am bummed so many of my favorites sold during my sale this past weekend, but am also so happy that they're headed to new homes.
