#the100dayproject : 96/100

for day 96 i decided to make a birthday card using some new products. i realize that i haven't made very many birthday cards during this project and they're one style that i really need to add to my stash!

this turned out better than i imagined it would and for only using minimal colors and supplies, i'm really happy with it.

i began by die-cutting the word "big" from a new die-cut set from mft. i was super excited when i saw the preview of this product, because it's huge! i have so many ideas for different ways to use this. i cut it out three times - once from the patterned green and white polka dots as seen here, once from white cardstock and once from green fun foam. then i stacked them on top of one another for some big dimension!

the word "wishes" was cut from the same die and i adhered it to the card base by laying it in the negative space. this ensures that it's lined up perfectly. this is also when i blended the bottom portion of the word using two shades of distress ink. then, i removed the outline, revealing the word. i'm a big fan of the way the top of it blends in with the card panel and the bottom stands out in that bold green color.

i stamped the scripty word "birthday" from another new [to me] set from mama elephant, slightly above the word wishes. then i added in the word big. i used a gel pen to add some detail to the lower corners and used some polka dotted black and white washi tape at the top of the card. i really like the way the polka dots play off of one another and the three splashes of black.

just look at that dimension! it's so great - this is definitely something that i'll be doing more and more in the future. it's just such a fun detail. this is another card that i think would be super cute in a set - full of all different color options. add it to the list!

tomorrow will be a long day at work, but i'll spend it scheming a card idea so i can bust one out when i come home. only a few days left! here's hoping i'll continue the streak!
