welcome to day two!
today's spin landed on old product and after some deliberation, i decided to use some older patterned paper that i've had in my stash for years. as i've mentioned in the past, i worked for years for several scrapbook stores as that's where i really began my creative journey, scrapbooking the everyday moments. during that time i also acquired a massive amount of patterned paper. we are talking - i could probably wallpaper every room in my home 7 times over and still have paper left. what can i say, i like a good design, good color combo, good pattern ... and the list goes on! i'm trying to make a conscious effort to use more of what i have - it's not doing anyone any good just sitting on a shelf, hence the "old" category on the wheel this time around.
i felt like this colorful heart patterned paper was fitting for valentine's day [happy day by the way!] and i really like the way the hearts are kind of wonky shaped. another element i think is fun is the way that the color combo is a little untraditional. i'm a huge fan of pinks, reds and aquas together - all times of year.
i cut a panel slightly smaller than the card base - this is a standard a2 card - but before i adhered it to the panel, i die-cut the word "hi" out of the bottom right. the pink card base shows through around the die-cut word and your eye visually connects the pattern.
using a shade of aqua cardstock that coordinates with the color in the patterned paper, i cut a small narrow strip and stamped the sentiment "sending love your way" in black ink. i added a small fishtail to the right side and the sentiment overlaps the die-cut word. it's also elevated off of the card base with thin foam strips for dimension. purposely it doesn't line up right against the left side of the card base, creating a slight break in the small white dashes that are hand drawn around the patterned paper perimeter.
when i look at this card i do think it's a little bit busy, mostly due to the patterned paper. however, i kind of like that you have to look to see the word hi - but no matter what the supporting sentiment is front and center. overall, i'm happy with the way that it turned out and even happier that i'm making progress on using my stash!
again - happy valentine's day. i hope your day has been full of love - the people you love and the things you love.
2 days down, 98 to go!
